UT Dallas Degree: BA – Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus in business communication, management and diversity
Work Background
I began my career in Boston in accounting, operational audits and field training in the real estate industry. I relocated to Dallas after my company was acquired and began working for Southmark Management, which became one of the country’s largest multi-family housing managers. My responsibilities expanded and I was promoted to Vice President of Human Resources, Internal Audit and Policy Administration. As director of HR at Staffing Resources, a national staffing company with 17,000 consultants, I managed the full spectrum of human resource issues. Afterwards, I started my own consulting company, providing strategic solutions in human resources, marketing, fundraising and special events.
Accolades
I graduated Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 GPA; member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society and Golden Key Honor Society. I have received numerous philanthropic and business awards including the 2010 President’s Volunteer Service Award; UNICEF’s service award; recognition by the Institute for Real Estate Management for Policy Manuals; and two coveted “Atta Boy” awards from Southmark’s CEO.
Benefits of on IS Degree
Despite a successful career, I regretted dropping out of college when I was 19. I decided to return to school in my mid-forties. It seemed a daunting task at first, but being in Interdisciplinary Studies provided me the flexibility to tailor a curriculum to my diverse interests, and that was important to me. I worked hard and felt a great deal of personal satisfaction when I graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Interests
My parents were very philanthropic and instilled in me the need to give back to the community. I have served on many non-profit boards and committees including: UTD’s Academic Bridge Program; Dallas Urban League, Family Gateway, Dallas County Historical Society, Dallas Arboretum, North Dallas Texas Women’s Democratic Club and others. I am an ardent supporter for animal adoption organizations. Since retiring, I have taken up duplicate bridge and am a Bronze Life Master. I also enjoy traveling with my husband.
