Profile

Elizabeth Salter earned her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology and her master of Museum Studies from the University of Toronto. Her master of arts in Archaeology was earned at the University of Calgary and her doctorate was in Biological Anthropology from the University of Toronto.

She served as the Associate Dean for the School of Interdisciplinary Studies from 1995 to 2012, but resigned from administrative duties to devote more time to teaching. During her time as Associate Dean, she was responsible for the Introduction of the BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, and she collaborated with Scott Wright to introduce the degree in Healthcare Studies. She has served on the Academic Senate at UT-Dallas since 2000 and on the Academic Council since 2005 as a representative of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and as a representative of the non-tenured faculty. Additionally, she has taught up to eight different courses over the years.

Research Interests

My research interests have evolved over time from the analysis of animal bones at archaeological sites, through human skeletal biology, to cranial dysmorphology, growth assessment, aging and now women and health. In 1997, J.C. Kolar and I received the Praxis Award from the Washington Association of Physical Anthropologists for excellence in applying anthropology to problems of the contemporary world.

I am still developing new courses that will be of benefit to the students in Interdisciplinary Studies and the University as a whole. I shall finish the archaeological work that I began at Indian Creek, in Antigua and I shall continue to work on behalf of the non-tenured faculty and the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
